Justin Trudeau: The Tide Turneth

The National Post has an exclusive poll that shows that the Liberal Party would win a national election if Justin Trudeau became its leader:

In an exclusive poll conducted for the National Post, Forum found if Mr. Trudeau were leader of the Liberal Party and an election were held today, the Grits would win, handily, with 39% of the popular vote.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservatives would come in second, with 32% of the vote, and the NDP — today the Official Opposition and led by Thomas Mulcair — would return to third-party status, with just 20% of the vote.

“The real news here is that Justin Trudeau as Liberal leader has the effect of taking all the wind out of the NDP’s sails,” said Lorne Bozinoff, Forum Research’s president, of the 14% bump Mr. Trudeau would lend the Liberals.

Past polls by EKOS and Abacus have confirmed the gamechanger nature of a Liberal Party led by Justin Trudeau, and I expect future polls will confirm this; in fact, I have expected this to happen for some time now. Harper is just too mean for Canadians; most of us want a change from meanness to civility, from partisan attacks to democratic cooperation, from sneaky behind the scenes diminishment of Canada, to the restoration of Canadian values which most of us support.

And Harper will have to unleash his Slash and Burn Squads with a vengeance, because once this meme takes root, it will be very hard to eradicate.

Methinks this is Stephen Harper’s last term as prime minister.

Expect an early election – perhaps in fall 2013.

This is a superior use of finance and petro profits than giving it to dumb neocon Christian Albertans.

  2. "“The real news here is that Justin Trudeau as Liberal leader has the effect of taking all the wind out of the NDP’s sails,” said Lorne Bozinoff"

Is this guy for real? The real news is that Justin Trudeau and the liberals would spell the end of the regressive Harper regime.

  3. Anon, you got it right!

This guy really blew his conclusion - the Harper government will as of next Tuesday be on notice that it will itself be getting some of those thousands and thousands of pink slips its been handing out, courtesy of the voters.

This poll's results confirm earlier polls - mentioned in my earlier posts abouts coming voter migrations - that showed a Trudeau-led Liberal Party would attract nomadic Liberals back into the fold and draw a big whack - perhaps one fifth to one quarter - of voters who supported the NDP to vote for the Liberals.

And I still believe a coalition government - LPC and NDP and Greens - will take over come the next election.

  4. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

Van Loan, or should I say Jackie Gleason, will have to stuff his gloatiness down his pants and maybe he'll even lose his seat. Baird can get a job driving airport limousines out to Uplands. Ambrose can open a daycare in Nunavut.

    Go JT.

[not the same Anonymous as the last one]

  5. Justin Trudeau? A liberal Sarah Palin, all style no substance.

  6. Rotterdam, perhaps Justin Trudeau will grow sweeter for you as time goes on; first glimpses often don't give one enough information ... so hang in there.
